We're incredibly honoured to be kicking off 2022 by releasing art by one of our favourite illustrators, Katherine Lam. As part of our literature print collection, Katherine instantly chose to represent the William Shakespeare opus, King Lear. Here's why:
"I chose King Lear because I love the timelessness of themes in the play- betrayal, power, etc. I chose to depict Act 2 Scene 3, when Goneril and Regan push King Lear out of his castle. This scene I feel like captures the tragedy of King Lear the best: he was once a king with everything, but because of his own pride and flawed judgement, has been reduced to an old man with nothing, not even his sanity."
Katherine's recognised and masterful use of texture and light playing with architectural forms is never more evident than here. Characters are dwarfed and yet upon closer inspection are somehow imbued with emotion. Her rise as a print artist continues, amassing a broad spectrum of fans and Katherine has called this work her favourite to date.

Katherine is an illustrator based in Brooklyn, NY. Their work stems from the realization that our emotions taint our reality and focuses on creating spaces that mirror our psychological state. While their work is grounded in reality, they strive to instil a sense of surrealism and limen in their images.
Their work has been in 3x3, Society of Illustrators, AI-AP, Communication Arts, Applied Arts, and Creative Quarterly. She has been featured in Photoshop Creative 166.
Selected clients include Criterion Collection, The New York Times, New Yorker, Mondo, Folio Society, Chronicle, Rolling Stone, and Entertainment Weekly.
