Gamescom 2026: The Biggest Reveals for Video Game Art Fans
Gamescom has wrapped up for another year, and as always it gave us plenty to look forward to. Whether you're into sprawling RPGs, psychological horror, tactical strategy or classic Japanese franchises, Opening Night Live was packed with announcements that reminded us why we love this industry.
At Moor Art, we're always watching these showcases a little differently. Every new trailer, sequel and remake has the potential to inspire incredible artwork from the talented artists we work with.
Here are the announcements that caught our eye.
The Witcher Is Back
One of the show's biggest surprises was CD Projekt Red's reveal of The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a brand-new expansion that bridges the story between The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the upcoming The Witcher 4. Alongside it came The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, giving one of the greatest RPGs ever made a fresh coat of paint.
The Witcher has always been one of gaming's richest worlds for artists. From Kaer Morhen and Novigrad to Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer, it's a series packed with iconic imagery that continues to inspire illustrators years after release.
Final Fantasy VII's Story Reaches Its Finale
Square Enix finally unveiled Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, the concluding chapter of the remake trilogy, complete with a stunning cinematic trailer and a Spring 2027 release window.
Few franchises have influenced game artists as much as Final Fantasy, and judging by what we've seen so far, this final instalment looks set to deliver some unforgettable visual moments.
Silent Hill Fans Finally Got More Townfall
As huge fans of the Silent Hill series, one announcement immediately stood out.
Konami showcased a brand-new look at Silent Hill: Townfall, giving players another glimpse into its unsettling atmosphere and mysterious story.
We're always excited to see Silent Hill back in the spotlight. It's one of the franchises we've been fortunate enough to celebrate through officially licensed artwork, and we can't wait to see where Townfall takes the series next.
Gears of War: E-Day Looks Better Than Ever
Xbox revealed another substantial look at Gears of War: E-Day, confirming an October release while showing off more of Marcus and Dom's return to the beginning of the Locust War.
The original trilogy remains one of gaming's defining action series, and E-Day looks set to remind everyone why.
SEGA Stole the Show
SEGA had one of the busiest booths at Gamescom this year, bringing together an incredible line-up of new titles spanning survival horror, RPGs and arcade racing.
Alien: Isolation 2
After years of waiting, fans finally had the chance to go hands-on with Alien: Isolation 2. Early previews suggest Creative Assembly has retained everything that made the original a modern horror classic: relentless tension, intelligent Xenomorph AI and an atmosphere that keeps you constantly on edge. While SEGA confirmed a release date still isn't ready to be announced, the playable demo has only increased anticipation for Amanda Ripley's return.
For us, it's fantastic to see one of gaming's greatest horror experiences making a comeback. Few games have inspired artists quite like Alien: Isolation, with its incredible environmental design and unforgettable creature work.
Persona 4 Revival
SEGA and Atlus also showcased Persona 4 Revival, a full remake of one of the most beloved JRPGs ever created. Visitors got another look at the updated visuals, stylish UI and modernised presentation, while preserving the charm that made the original such a fan favourite.
We're huge admirers of Persona's bold visual identity. Between the striking character designs, memorable cast and distinctive graphic style, it's a series that's always been a natural fit for incredible artwork.
Stranger Than Heaven
One of the most intriguing games on display was Stranger Than Heaven, the upcoming action-adventure title from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the team behind the Like a Dragon series. Set across multiple decades of 20th-century Japan, the game follows Makoto Daito on a sprawling journey that blends cinematic storytelling, brutal hand-to-hand combat and an unexpectedly deep music system.
Every new trailer seems to reveal another layer of its ambitious design, and Gamescom 2026 only heightened anticipation with another impressive showcase. With its richly detailed historical settings, distinctive art direction and unmistakable RGG style, Stranger Than Heaven is quickly becoming one of our most anticipated releases of the coming year.
Crazy Taxi: World Tour
One of the more unexpected highlights was Crazy Taxi: World Tour, the long-awaited return of one of SEGA's most iconic arcade franchises. The new entry captures the frantic, over-the-top gameplay that fans remember, while introducing a larger world and new ways to cause glorious chaos behind the wheel.
It's wonderful to see SEGA continuing to revive so many of its classic franchises. Whether it's Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Jet Set Radio or Golden Axe, these are games that have defined generations of players—and we'd love to see more artists celebrating them in the future.
New Worlds Worth Watching
Alongside the familiar names were several exciting new IPs.
Games such as Dungeons & Dragons: Warlock and Exodus showcased striking art direction and ambitious ideas.
Some of today's new franchises often become tomorrow's classics, and with Exodus coming from the team who originally brought fans the Mass Effect series, these are definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Looking Ahead
Gamescom 2026 reinforced just how exciting the next couple of years are shaping up to be.
Between The Witcher, Silent Hill, Gears of War, and a host of promising new IPs, there was no shortage of inspiration for artists or collectors alike.
